In episode #7 we listen to Kerstin Uvnäs Moberg, Swedish professor of physiology and global expert on the topic of oxytocin, a hormone with vast effects throughout the brain and body, very much involved in our sense of safety and security and responsible for healing and growth. Kerstin speaks about the early days of her oxytocin research and how it was (and sometimes still is!) hard for other researchers to take this hormone seriously, seeing how related it is to a couple of very ‘female’ processes, like birth and breastfeeding. She makes a strong plea for looking into to all kinds of daily procedures and practices, so that we get a much better understanding of the large overall impact of adding up many positive small and subtle influences on behaviour and wellbeing. This eminent lady will soon end her eighth decade, but is as bright, sharp, and passionate as ever, fiercely determined to keep writing and sharing her knowledge with many different disciplines in both science and society at large. Even she herself feels that we do not yet have full comprehension of the incredibly beautiful characteristics of oxytocin and its ability to make human potential for resilience flourish!
