Aflevering Ass. Prof. Gregory Winger – A Theory Of Defence Diplomacy

In this session Assistant Professor Gregory Winger highlights that military diplomacy and defense diplomacy are not yet critically examined as concepts itself and are plagued by conceptual ambiguity. Therefore he positions it as a tool of statecraft and analyzes how it can be used as a tool for soft power by a state. He ends with discussing how the use of military diplomacy by the United States may develop in the future. This session is hosted by Hester Postma, project officer on Military Diplomacy. About the expert: Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Cincinnati. His research explores the uses of collaborative military activities, known as defense diplomacy, as foreign policy tools. Specifically, Dr. Winger examines the important role of defense cooperation to sustaining the U.S.-Philippine alliance and meeting emerging security challenges, including counterterrorism and cybersecurity.
