In this episode of the Donkere Kamer podcast, I talk with American fine art photographer Lucas Foglia. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lucas creates lyrical and compassionate stories about people and nature. His work has been collected and exhibited worldwide, from the ICP in New York to the V&A in London. With his sixth book Constant Bloom and a Guggenheim Fellowship, Lucas followed the longest butterfly migration ever recorded, from Kenya to Norway. The project is both poetic and urgent: a metaphor for human connection across borders in times of division and change. We discuss his upbringing on a small farm, how an old Hasselblad camera shaped his path, why friendship matters more than networking, and why festivals are vital spaces for dialogue and discovery. Want to experience these kinds of conversations live? On September 30th I’ll be on stage at Pakhuis De Zwijger in Amsterdam, together with a special line-up including Anton Corbijn and Anaïs López.
